A group of concerned citizens, (dog and non dog owners) who believe in the need for a large public community dog park within walking distance of the Pentagon City metro, to serve the needs of the many canine companions of residents in our densely populated urban environment.
Pentagon City Dogs supporters are working with the Aurora Highlands Civic Association and local businesses to make this a reality with the County. And we look forward to your support!
Goal
Establish a Large Community Temporary Dog Park at Virginia Highlands Park by the year 2020.
We’re getting closer to our goal! Read more about our progress in our “Details” page.
1. Off-leash play and socialization is important for happy and healthy dogs, and thus important to Arlington dog-owners. There is no dedicated fenced space for off-leash play and socialization in 22202, so dog owners must either drive to other areas of Arlington or establish “de facto” play areas such as Metropolitan Park, interfering with other community uses.
2. Dog population in 22202 continues to increase in both single-family homes and multi-family buildings, and is only expected to expand further with Amazon HQ2 arrival. The Arlington Public Spaces Master Plan identifies a large need for dog parks in the area.
3. However, the need exists now, so we are looking to establish a temporary dog park in the Virginia Highlands Park until long-term master planning can be completed and projects executed. We are looking for Arlington County leadership and staff to help us get there!
